PANJIM: With 122mm of incessant rains, July 6 became the wettest day of the monsoon season till now. The current surplus is 17 per cent with the State receiving a total of 1571.3mm (61.8 inches) of rainfall till Friday. For Goa 2,946mm (116 inches) is considered as normal for the season.
Speaking to Herald, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa director M L Sahu confirmed that July 6 has been wettest day of the season so far. “South-west monsoon has been active over Goa and looking at the current situation, we can expect above normal rainfall for the season,” he said.
June 9 was the season’s second wettest day as rainfall that day touched 100mm, followed by June 8, which received above 90mm. June 21 also received a good amount of rainfall which was just below 90mm. “If you see the trend, State has received rain almost every day in an isolated manner,” Sahu said.
Except for June 14, that received just 1mm of rainfall. As per IMD website, till date, the total rainfall has been 1571.3mm as against the normal 1346.7mm till July 13.
IMD has forecast heavy rains with thunderstorms for the next five days in the State.
