VALPOI/PONDA: Rainfall and gusty winds in Sattari on Monday evening, destroyed banana plantations, coconut and arecanut trees causing huge losses to local farmers from the taluka, besides damaging 16 houses in Kankire, Valpoi.
“Also the paddy fields got damaged,” mentioned the locals.
Besides this, 16 houses from Kankire village, Valpoi got damaged due to the gusty winds. The roofs of the houses were blown away. The household items also got damaged. The villagers are facing huge losses due to this natural calamity.
“No untoward incident was reported. The properties have got damaged due to the unseasonable rainfall,” said the locals.
Valpoi Zonal Officer Vishwanath Gawas visited the village and inspected the damaged crops. Several houses from Kankire village of Guleli Panchayat were damaged due to the unseasonable rainfall that hit the State.
“I will reconstruct all these houses with my own cost,” informed Valpoi MLA and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.
Meanwhile, the unseasonal rain accompanied with cyclonic wind caused havoc at Santermaal and Kumbarwada of Ward Number 9 and 10 of Bethora Nirankal Panchayat.
Around 40 villagers suffered losses as several arecanut and coconut trees came crushing down.
Some of the villagers’ houses roofs were blown away causing heavy damages. Panch Chandrakant Samanth and Tezas Shetkar inspected the damaged bagayats.
Samath urged local MLA Subash Shirodkar and Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to provide some financial relief to the affected villagers.
