PANJIM: Despite some heavy rain showers last week, the total seasonal rainfall in Goa is yet to touch the 100-inch mark.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa on Wednesday forecast light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers at isolated places over Goa in the next five days.
It has not issued any weather warning. “Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places overall district of Goa on September 28,” the IMD forecast says.
Speaking to Herald on the seasonal rainfall, MET-Goa, Director ML Sahu said, “The total deficit stands at 15 percent till now.” The deficit has been attributed to the late arrival of the monsoon and scarce rainfall.
As per data with IMD, Goa received 98.97 inches of rainfall from June 1 to September 27 against the average of 115.78 inches.
Meanwhile, IMD on Wednesday recorded temperatures of 31.7 degrees Celsius. The weather report states that in the past 24 hours Sankhali recorded 5 cms rainfall while Margao, Valpoi, and Old Goa received 1 cm each and Panjim 2 cms.
The forecast for Panjim in the next 24 hours is cloudy sky with possibility of rain/thundershowers with temperatures likely to be around 32 and 24 degrees Celsius.
