MARGAO: Heavy rains, triggered by strong winds left a trail of destruction in Salcete on Thursday evening.
Fire Station Officer Gil Souza said fire fighters were on the run to attend calls in the last 24 hours including seven calls of tree fall.
He disclosed that calls were received from Nuvem, Aquem and Malbhat in Margao, Loutolim, Gudi-Paroda.
A coconut tree that had fallen on a house near the Civil and Criminal Court at Old Market, was cleared by a team led by Fire Fighter N G Pagi with one fire tender.
While the loss here is estimated to be Rs. 50,000 fire personnel saved property worth Rs 2,00,000.
Another coconut tree fell on a house near the Railway Station at Aquem which was cleared by one fire tender led by Leading Fire Fighter S P Desai. The loss caused here is not estimated as yet.
A tree fell across the road at Vikrant building in Malbhat and fire fighters led by Leading Fire Fighter R S Khutkar cleared it.
The tree that fell across the road at Carmel College, Nuvem was cleared by a team led by Fire “Fighter N G Pagi while the tamarind tree that had fallen across the road near Gudi Parod panchayat by a team led by Leading Fire Fighter S P Dessai.
The strong winds blew off the roofing sheets of a house at Navelim while many parts of Fatorda had a blackout due to power failure.
