PANJIM: Heavy rains lashed the State on Wednesday as the Southwest monsoon has become active again. IMD recorded 2.3 inches of rainfall in the State in last 24 hours. The total seasonal rainfall since June 1 has touched 98.76 inches, which is normal for this period.
“The southwest monsoon has been active over Goa. The low pressure belts developed along the east of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have brought relief to the west coast,” an IMD official said.
On Wednesday, the State received heavy showers and the rains are expected to continue for next five days. In August the State has received 12 inches of rains.
Pernem, Sanquelim and Canacona received the highest rainfall of seven cms. Mapusa, Panjim, Valpoi and Margao received six cms while Ponda and Sanguem recorded five cms each.
For the month of July, Goa recorded 39 inches of rains, which is less than the rains in June which were 48 inches, and nearly 30 percent more than the normal.
