Fishermen warned not to venture into sea

PANJIM: Heavy incessant rains continued to lash the State on Tuesday, leaving several arterial roads water-logged and fuelling traffic snarls. The Goa observatory of the Indian Metrological Department has warned fishermen against venturing into the sea for the next 24-hours, even as the fishing ban is in force.
The weather warning for the fishermen of South Maharashtra and Goa coast suggests that, “Wind will be in south-westerly direction with speeds of 45 to 50 kmph temporarily reaching 60 kmph in gust. The sea will be rough with south-westerly waves. Fishermen are advised not to go out into the sea during the next 24 hours,” IMD said in a statement.
The heavy downpour which began Monday morning resulted in water-logging in several parts of the capital city with commuters facing major hardships. Water-logging was reported at D B Marg, near Don Bosco High School, Mala, Shankarwadi, etc. The Fire Services claimed that no emergency calls were received by department on Tuesday, while heavy showers kept its officials on toes on Monday. The situation was similar in major towns across Goa.
Indian Meteorological Department recorded four inches of rainfall (95mm) in the last two days. The Met Department has forecast heavy to very heavy showers for Goa in the next 24-hours.
As per IMD records, between 5.30 pm (Monday) and 8.30 am (Tuesday) the City received 86 mm of rainfall, bringing down the temperature below the normal level. While up till 5.30 pm on Tuesday, 9.6 mm of rainfall was recorded.
The total seasonal rainfall has touched 21.2 inches (520mm).
The maximum and minimum temperature for the day remained 27.4 Degree Celsius and 22.5 Degree Celsius, respectively.
