SANGUEM: The heavy rains which lashed Sanguem taluka since Sunday night threw the normal life out of gear and the people had tough times in managing their daily affairs.

The rain which commenced on Sunday continued to pour till late evening and after a brief break of about an hour continued to lash all over again.

“All the rivers in the taluka were found to be overflowing resulting in the increase of flow of water at Selaulim Dam to 42.58 metres,” informed Assistant Engineer, Water Resources Department, Swapnil Diukar.

Agricultural plantations at many places got submerged under water due to overflowing waters in the nearby rivers. Water was found to be overflowing at Valshem Bridge since late Sunday night. However, no disturbance was caused in the flow of vehicular traffic over the bridge. At Ambdoi, Sanguem, agriculture plantation owned by Priti Gaonkar and Suryaji Gaonkar got totally submerged into water due to swelling water of Potrem River.

At Funtemoll-Uguem, a huge tamarind tree got uprooted and fell across the road causing disruption of the flow of traffic.

Panchayat member Marcus Pereira immediately called the fire brigade and got the road cleared for vehicular traffic.
