Rains take a toll on roads in Ponda

Recently tarred roads washed away, have developed potholes

PONDA:  Heavy rainfall in Ponda Taluka has washed away some of the recently tarred roads, which have also developed potholes thereby causing inconvenience to the residents.

The locals have criticised the government and the contractor for the shoddy work and poor timing of the road construction, which coincided with the monsoon season.

The further complained that the three-km long Kavlem-Durbhat road, which was tarred recently, is in dilapidated condition. The roads in Ponda town have washed away and developed potholes posing risk to commuters.

Vishal Naik, a resident, suspected that the substandard work with less use of bitumen led to washing away of roads and waste of public money and blamed the government for undertaking the work during monsoon.

The locals have demanded that the contractors immediately repair the roads with proper quality material after monsoon.

The workers were noticed clearing the gravel on the road which is posing risk to the public.
