CALANGUTE: The coastal belt of Calangute was largely affected due to continuous downpour accompanied by high velocity winds, throwing normal life out of gear.
The heavy showers over the past two days flooded the roads causing inconvenience to motorists, light and heavy vehicles besides the pedestrians.
At a few places in Calangute, where underground cabling work is in progress, tourist buses and other vehicles were seen standing still as roads were flooded and the open pits could not be seen.
The newly-built speed breakers also posed a threat they could not be seen as roads were inundated. The speed breakers next to Ronil’s at Baga also suffered damaged as they were partly washed away in the gushing water.
At Baga beach, the bus stop shed was blown away due to fierce winds from the sea. The roof of the shelter toppled over and fell on its side.
The roads from Calangute to Candolim also experienced flooding.
