Raj Bhavan: Goencho Avaaz urges Guv to reject new plan

PANJIM: Urging Governor Satya Pal Malik to reject the decision, Goencho Avaaz has charged that the decision and announcement made by the Chief Minister to acquire land for building a new Raj Bhavan is nothing but rubbing salt in the wounds of the people reeling under the difficult situation prevailing due to the COVID pandemic.

In a press note issued here, Goencho Avaaz says that it now confirms the widely perceived belief of the citizens that such ill conceived decisions are driven by the real estate-politico nexus to make a quick buck taking advantage of the lockdown.

“At a time when the senior citizens have not been paid pension for months, when the daily wage labourers are facing acute hardships, common citizens not having access to medical facilities, welfare programmes have been put in the backburner, and even then people cooperating with the authorities in fighting the grim battle against the virus, such announcements tend to display a farcical attitude of the government, and points to a very low level of governance,” they said.

However, Goencho Avaaz said it would like to appeal to the Honourable  Governor, an acclaimed  follower of Manohar Lohia principles to reject such alleged selfish motives of the government to siphon of money by using the Governor’s institution.

“We are not against such moves, but when the government is selling bonds for its very survival and compromising in its fight against the pandemic with insufficient COVID centres, such moves by the embattled government raises grave doubts about its dubious intentions and political judgment,” they said.

Goencho Avaaz is hopeful that after fearlessly and boldly ticking off the government for its mishandling of the pandemic,  the governor will not fall prey to such cheap tactics and once again emerge as the peoples’ governor, and uphold the Lohia principles.
