PONDA: Rajesh Faldesai has been elected unopposed as Chairman of Goa Dairy. Though Faldesai has been associated with the Curti-Ponda based milk producer for many years, this is the first time he has been elected as chairman of Goa Dairy.
All the eleven Board of Directors, including former chairman Madhav Sahakari, were present for the election meeting. The election for the chairman was necessitated after Sahakari was voted out as chairman of Goa Dairy last month.
An officer from Cooperative Bhavan at Curti, Sonu Gaunekar, presided over the election and declared Faldesai as elected unopposed by BoD. The directors present for the election are: Baburao Desai, Vithoba Desai, Gurudas Parab, Ajay Desai, Babu Komarpanth, Naresh Malik, Rajendra Sawal, Aselmo Saval.
The Goa Dairy has 12 directors, however, one of them was disqualified.
for not attending three consecutive board meeting earlier. Consequently, the current strength of BoD is eleven.
A memorandum of no confidence motion against Sahakari was submitted to the Registrar of Co-Operative Societies, immediately after he suspended MD Navso Sawant for his involvement in scams that caused huge loss to Goa Dairy.
When asked, after his election, as to how he planned to handle the scams in Goa Dairy,
Faldesai said that he has just been elected as such he would not speak on the issue till studies the same in detail.
However, he said that his BoD would plan welfare schemes for the farmers who are supplying milk to Goa Dairy.
To a question how he would take forward the Goa Dairy, Faldesai said that his hard work would earn a good repute to the co-operative society and that he would strengthen it to face any competitions from its rivals.
Former chairman Sahakari refused to take any question.
