MAPUSA: The Former Union Minister and Congress leader, Ramakant Khalap said late Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi was a pioneer in bringing about a revolution in the telecommunication sector. The Congress MLA’s and office bearers paid floral tributes to late Rajiv Gandhi and garlanded his portrait on the occasion of his 74th birth anniversary.
“He connected India through telephones in every nook and corner of the country. Today India is well connected through the network of telephones and every household has a telephone all thanks to Rajiv Gandhi for bringing about a revolution in the telecommunication sector.
He also worked towards creating a lot of infrastructure in health care,”Khalap said at the North Goa Congress office at Mapusa on Monday.
“Keeping in the mind the great work of Rajiv Gandhi the Congress party is aiming to build a modern country which is free from corruption and is striving to bring in young and dynamic leaders who have a new direction and vision for the country,” Khalap added.
Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte said that Rajiv Gandhi reduced the voting age from 21 to 18 in order to give an impetus to the youth to come forward and participate actively in the decision making process.
Also present at the occasion were Thivim MLA, Nilkanth Harlankar; North Goa District Congress President, Vijay Bhike; Siolim Block Congress President, Rajan Ghate; and few other Goa Pradesh Congress Committee members.
