PANJIM: Former visionary Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi’s immense contribution for welfare of Goans will never be forgotten.
He transformed Union Territory of Goa into a State, unfortunately in last nine years the most insensitive and irresponsible the BJP government has converted it into a “Crony Estate”, charged Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat.
Speaking at the birth anniversary function of late Rajiv Gandhi organised by Congress in city on Friday, Kamat said that late Gandhi had a vision to empower Goans and transform this State into prosperity. As the BJP has failed to do its duty, let us all rise to ensure safety and security of Goans.
“There are no hopes from this irresponsible government. The BJP has shattered the dreams of Goans. Let us all work to bring back Congress government in 2022,” he said.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha, former union minister Eduardo Faleiro, GPCC Vice President M K Shaikh, former ministers Alex Sequeira and Mickky Pacheco, Mahila Congress President Beena Naik, Youth Congress President Varad Mardolkar, South Goa District Congress Committee President Joe Dias, former MLA Agnelo Fernandes and others were also present.
Chodankar said that late Gandhi believed in decentralisation of power and passed on the administrative rights to local bodies like village panchayats and municipalities. His vision was to empower the common man and woman. BJP government has killed every democratic institution to give powers to only Modi-Shah duo, who he added, had centralised everything demolishing the federal system.
Sardinha lauded the contribution of former prime minister late Rajiv Gandhi while Eduardo Faleiro said that late Gandhi was a visionary, who pioneered technological reforms in the country.
Earlier, Chodankar, Kamat, Sardinha, Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro and others paid floral tributes at the statue of late Rajiv Gandhi at Bambolim. The Leader of Opposition also gave “Sadbhavna Pledge” to all those present.
