VASCO: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will commission Indian Coast Guard offshore Patrol Vessel ‘ICGS Sarathi’ on September 9, at Goa Shipyard Limited.
The vessel was launched by Defence production Special Secretary Ashok Kumar Gupta on April 24, 2015 at GSL yard. The ship is the third in a series of six ships that the Coast Guard has ordered. Delivery of all ships is expected to be completed by 2017.
The in-house-designed offshore patrol vessel is well equipped to undertake search and rescue operations, pollution control and external fire fighting and will be deployed for ocean surveillance and for monitoring sea lanes of communication. It is capable of cruising at a speed of 23 knots and has a range of 6,000 nautical miles.
