PANJIM: Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar on Friday appealed to people not to deposit their money in a fake account opened using his name.
“Some people have reported that a fake account is asking for money using my name. Please don’t donate or provide anything to that person. It is a scam. I don’t have any other account nor have I ever asked for such favours. Please help us report this scammer and save others from getting duped,” said Tendulkar.
Tendulkar requested people not to entertain such request by transferring their money to the cyber fraudster.
The incidents of opening bank accounts in the name of prominent persons or religious institutions are on the rise. Last week, the managing committee of Shantadurga Temple, Kavale filed a police complaint after a fraudster from Maharashtra opened a fake account and started requesting several people to donate money in the name of donations.
Thankfully, one of the persons immediately brought the issue to the notice of the managing committee president Triloknath Borkar, who filed complaint at the Ponda Police Station and the cyber police cell.
