Ramnagri Co-op Hsg Society seeks government intervention to prevent water disconnection

MARGAO: The Ramnagri Co-operative Housing Society (RCHS) has written to the government, stating that their water connections are being disconnected for no fault of theirs, as they had applied for their sewerage connection and are seeking relief. Members of RCHS also spoke to PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral, who assured them that their

concerns would be addressed soon.

It may be recalled that earlier, the Curtorim Primary Health Centre (PHC) issued a notice to disconnect water connections to 195 members residing in RCHS. RCHS members further explained that RCHS comprises 40 buildings with ap-proximately 242 members, totalling almost 800 residents, including elderly individuals and children.

“In 2010, we pleaded with Sewerage & Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa (SIDC) and PWD to extend the sewerage line to our society. After repeated efforts, SIDC approved the extension of the public sewerage line to our society. Subsequently, all necessary infrastructure work, such as manholes and the laying of internal pipelines within our society premises were completed by the General Manager (GM) of SIDC in 2012-13,” said Vivek Naik, RCHS Chairman.

“We have already applied for our sewer network to connect to the main public sewerage line at the office of the General Manager

(Executive Engineer), SIDC, PWD on April13, 2022,” Naik added.

“On November 9, 2022, the GM informed the Health officer that the sewer network has already been laid but could not be commissioned as the connecting sewerage pumping station at Davorlim is not yet completed, and work on electro-mechanical systems and the pumping main is still pending.

This work will take approximately two months, and once it is completed, the sewerage network of the society can be connected to the public sewerage system. Until then, please do not disconnect the water supply connection. It will be one year on November 9, 2023 since the commitment was given by the GM, but the sewerage line is still not connected,” said Naik.

“On August 4, 2023, the GM wrote to the Executive Engineer, Div IV, Electricity Department, Aquem, to float the tender for the erection of a 100 KVA DP-mounted distribution transformer centre, along with the HT Line for the pumping station at Davorlim,” Naik added.

“Now, through no fault of ours, a disconnection notice has been issued by the

Curtorim PHC, with directions to the Assistant Engineer, PHE PWD, Borda, for the water connections of 195 of our members. This is not a solution to the issue,” Naik said.
