MAPUSA: Tensions have flared up in Aldona as the Comunidade has issued notices to Ramtale residents amidst fervent protests over the construction of a contested MRF shed, near the temple.
Locals clashed with the officials who had come to serve notices to residents over what they claimed were ‘illegal’ houses in the ward.
The conflict revolves around the proposed construction of the MRF shed, which met with stiffs opposition from the Ramtale residents. The Aldona Comunidade, has taken a firm stance in support of the project, leading to a growing divide within the community.
One resident stated that the officials suddenly came for inspection. When questioned they said that notices had been issued regarding the inspection of the houses claiming that they were illegal. “When we told them that we had not received any notice, some officials threatened us,” the resident alleged.
“They even threatened to demolish my house, due to which my mother’s blood pressure shot up and had to be hospitalised,” the woman stated.
“They are troubling us as we are opposing the MRF shed that is coming up near the temple,” the resident said.
