PANJIM: Assuring to revert back several lands which were arbitrarily converted, Minister for TCP Vishwajit Rane on Wednesday said that people were forced to sell their land by threatening that their properties will be converted to orchards.

In a series of tweets, Rane said that he has received various complaints where people have mentioned how they are being forced to sell their lands along with complaints of threats.

He said that people were threatened that if they don’t sell their properties, the same would be in ODPs and converted to orchards, open spaces and other zones by which they will not be able to use it for any constructive purpose.

“Several properties of individuals which were settlement of 2021 Regional Plan have been arbitrary without any application of mind, any authority or provisions of the Act. These have been reverted back to orchard, open spaces, natural cover, no development zones in the Regional Plan 2021, which was the base plan,” Rane tweeted.

The minister has condemned the act while stating that he will not tolerate injustice done to the people.

“It has been noticed that many cases brought to light through email are of the people of Goan origin. I will ensure such illegalities are reversed during my tenure as Minister,” he assured.
