PORVORIM: While on one hand Leader of Opposition Pratapsingh Rane took a dig at the State government over its failure to curb the growing illegal encroachments on comunidade and government land, his party colleague- Mauvin Godinho, applauded the State move to bring in a legislation to regularise the unauthorised structures demanding that the same be extended to comunidade areas.
The Congress legislators were speaking while participating on the discussion on Demand for Grants for the Revenue Department.
Rane, while moving a cut motion to the demands, pointed out the government failure to prevent the encroachments on government and comunidade land. “Government seems to be neglecting this very fact. As it is land is scarce, such illegal encroachments need to be curbed and necessary action has to be initiated,” he said.
“Today you are bringing law to regularized unauthorized structures…tomorrow you may get a law to regularize such encroachments,” former Speaker alleged.
Rane said that people of Goa will hold government responsible for the future consequences.
On the other hand, Godinho praised government for bringing in a legislation regularising the unauthorised structures existing since decades. “This is an historic move. No government ever taught to regularise these structures. We only went to them asking for votes but did nothing,” he stated.
The Dabolim MLA demanded that the legislation be further extended to the comunidade land.
Earlier, Leader of Opposition demanded that government withdraw the amendments made to the Tenancy Act and Mundkar Act as far as dispute redressal by courts is concerned. He pointed out that while the justice is been delayed also many cases have gone against tenants.
