VALPOI: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane backed panel won the Valpoi Municipal Council elections.
In the 10 wards municipality, in Ward No 1, Velus village, Anil Katkar won by 526 votes. In Ward No 2, Ramdas Shirodkar won by 441 votes. Ramdas won the municipal election for the fourth consecutive time. Both supported by Rane.
The other candidates backed by Rane are in Ward No 3, Vinod Haldankar, who won by 226 votes; Ward No 4, Prasanna Gawas, who won by 305 and Ward No 5, Idris Shaikh, who secured 440 votes.
In Ward No 6, Sharafat Khan won by 344 votes; Ward No 7, Sarfaraj Sayyad secured 514 votes win. He won highest margin.
In Ward No 8, Nirmala Mahesh Sakhalkar was elected unopposed, Ward No 9, Vaciyuddin Sayad won by 218 votes and Ward No 10, Shaizin Shaikh won by 299 vote. Vishwajit said that the election results show that the candidates are working for the downtrodden people.
