PANJIM: Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane has instructed the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) to put up a file before the government to drop cases against villagers and Range Forest Officer (RFO) in the Caranzol, Sattari firing incident following clashes in May last year.
Stating that the case going forward will only create further unrest among the people of the village and department, Rane has asked the PCCF to write to the government to drop the cases.
It may be recalled that on May 12, 2021, the RFO had resorted to firing in the air after Caranzol villagers clashed with the Forest Department officials while they had gone to inspect felling of trees in the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary.
The villagers had also attempted to gherao the Forest Department officials.
Later, the villagers filed a complaint at the Valpoi Police Station.
