The Ranes had applied for anticipatory bail in connection with the Special Investigation Team inquiry into the allegations of extortion against the father-son duo.

The anticipatory bail came up for hearing before the CBI Court, Mapusa, on Tuesday afternoon. Public Prosecutor Prasad Kirtani, on behalf of the SIT of the Crime Branch probing corruption and extortion charges against opposition leader Pratapsingh Rane and Vishwajeet Rane, demanded time to file the reply, as they have not completed the documentation. Hence, the Judge P Savaikar adjourned the case till July 21 after noon.
S Gupte, the advocate of Rane, requested the judge for the waiver of the condition of the bail regarding his presence in Goa. He pleaded that Viswajeet Rane may be allowed to go out of Goa for three days in connection with his daughter’s examination.
The Judge advised the advocate Gupte to make an application in this regard. Accordingly, Rane’s advocate submitted the application and the judge allowed Vishwajeet Rane to go out of Goa for three days.
