VASCO: While National Highway Authority of India is beautifying dividers on national highways, there is an ironical picture of garbage accumulated by the roadside from Shantinagar to Gandhinagar, at Vasco. Locals have expressed the need for the NHAI to properly dispose of the waste. Interestingly, the waste along the Verna square to Dabolim airport is picked up, but the garbage from fromShantinagar to Gandhinagarstretch is not collected.
NHAI has currently undertaken work of repainting the dividers and also planting flowering plants in between the dividers at Varunapuri, Gandhinagar, Bogda and Sada. While this will give a good impression to visitors, the unpicked garbage left by the roadside and in the gutters will quickly change the impression.
TheMormugao Municipal Council has erected waste collection centres along the Verna-Dabolim highway, but instead of putting their waste inside the collection centre, most people throw the waste around it. Some residents also dispose of their household waste out in the open, despite MMC’s workers doing door-to-doorcollection of garbage.
