MARGAO: A team of South Goa police have succeeded in arresting history-sheeter Anwar Shaikh alias Tiger from Karnataka. Shaikh has several cases registered against him including a recent rape case against him and his accomplices.
A rape case was reported at Quepem Police Station on November 15, 2019, wherein a woman from Goa was abducted, taken to Dharwad in Karnataka confined in a room from May 2019 to November 2019 and was sexually abused by four, namely, Anwar Shaikh alias Tiger, Tulshidas Naik, Raghavendra Devar and Shivdutt Talwar and threatened her with dire consequences to kill.
A special team was formed under the leadership of SDPO Kiran Poduval consisting of PIs Santosh Dessai, Kapil Nayak, HC Laxmikant K Borkar, PCs Sandesh Gadkar and Goraknath Gawas to investigate the case.
During investigation of the case, it was learnt that Shaikh was in Dharwad. Following this, the team led by PI Santosh was deputed to Dharwad, on Monday to arrest Shaikh. There, the team learnt that Shaikh had left for Saundatti, Karnataka. The team then visited Saundatti and with the assistance of local police conducted a massive search of probable hideouts and Shaikh was located in one of his hideouts from where he was arrested and brought to Goa.
Apart from the rape case, Tiger Anwar is reportedly involved in 25 criminal cases of rape, kidnapping, abduction, attempt to murder, dacoity, extortion, robbery, burglary, threat to kill, grievous hurt and rioting etc. Also, an externment proceeding is going on against him before the South Goa District Magistrate.
