Rape accused held again for abusing victim

QUEPEM: Sanguem resident Arif Khan, 25, who was released on conditional bail in a rape case, was yet again arrested by the Curchorem police on Friday night for allegedly abusing the victim and her neighbour. 

Police said that the accused went to a shop where the victim is working and picked up an argument with her for filing a complaint against him. He then allegedly abused the victim’s neighbour for being close to her family. 

However, the locals restrained him and handed him over to the police, informed Curchorem PI Vaibhav Naik.

Earlier, the locals approached the police station and demanded immediate arrest of the accused apprehending that he might attack the victim and the neighbour.

Six months back, the Sanguem police had arrested Arif on alleged rape charges and was released on conditional bail last month. 

Grocery shop 

gutted in fire 

A grocery store belonging to Satish Naik was gutted in a major fire at Curchorem, on Friday evening. The store is located on the ground floor of City Centre building at Curchorem. The loss is estimated to be around Rs five lakh. 

The Curchorem fire brigade rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.
