PANJIM: The boyfriend of the survivor of the gang rape at Betalbatim has turned out to be a real hero. Not only has he stood by the victim but has also helped police in the investigation.
The boy, whose identity has been kept under wraps, has been constantly helping the victim to overcome the trauma, while also assisting police after the three accused were arrested in a swift operation.
“The boy continues to go through the trauma of that night. But he put up a brave face. He has not only co-operated with the police but has also been standing beside the girl during her counseling sessions,” a senior police officer said.
All the accused were tracked through the mobile phone calls they made to the boy and the victim. “It would have been tough to nab all three accused without help of the boy. This is one example of real love,” a police officer said.
While police are creating a water tight case, the boy has assured that he would remain firm with the girl and help the prosecution.
“These are the hardened criminals and the main accused has four rape cases, seven robberies, three attempts of rape cases and a murder to his record,” a senior police official said. “It was sheer luck that the couple was spared from being killed by the gang,” police said.
While investigations have confirmed that three people were involved in the act, police are trying to verify whether they are part of a larger gang which rapes and kills couples at isolated spots.
