MARGAO: The 52-year old man from Quepem taluka who raped his own daughter has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the South Goa Sessions Court on Saturday.
South Goa additional Sessions Judge, Vandana Tendulkar on Saturday sentenced the accused to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 or in default to undergo two years imprisonment for raping his daughter. The court further sentenced the accused to three years and two years simple imprisonment for threatening to kill and inflicting grievous injuries on his daughter. All sentences are to run concurrently. He was convicted by the court on August 14.
The accused had raped his daughter in March 2010 and on various occasions prior to main incident. He had also threatened to kill her if she refused to concede to sexual lust. The accused is having three sons and three daughters, while his wife works as a house maid. He was arrested by Quepem police on March 21, 2010.
Public prosecutor Subhash Dessai had vehemently pressed for stringent punishment of life imprisonment arguing that there are no mitigating circumstances in favour of accused.
The case was investigated by then Quepem PI Sudesh S Narvekar.
