MARGAO: Loutolim villagers who had waged a war against garbage collection contractors dumping the garbage in the village are appalled to see that police have still not filed a complaint against the person caught dumping garbage in Rassaim in front of MLA Wilfred alias Babashan D’Sa. ‘

It may be recalled that in mid-January 2021 Loutolim villagers stopped one vehicle loaded with garbage that came to dump quarries in Rassaim and also a Maruti van that had come to scout the place. Police had seized the vehicles and while recording the statement, the drivers had disclosed who had asked them to do the work, in presence of MLA Wilfred. “However, what is surprising is that till date no complaint has been filed against the owner of the vehicles nor has he been summoned to the police station,” said Ramiro Mascarenhas from Loutolim.

The villagers again stopped another truck Monday night that came to dump garbage in Rassaim in an abandoned quarry. The villagers claim that the garbage was sent by the contractor collecting garbage from neighbouring Sancoale and Chicalim panchayat and insisted that their village should not become the dumping ground for garbage.

However, sarpanch of Loutolim Tony Vaz had some time ago alleged that the person dumping the garbage has the backing of a minister belonging to the BJP and hailing from Mormugao taluka but did not name the minister.

The villagers while demanding immediate clearance of the garbage dumped in the abandoned quarry at Rassaim also asked the MLA to ensure that action is taken against the person responsible for this problem.
