MARGAO: The citizens of Ratwado, Margao, expressed annoyance and frustration with the government, slamming the authorities for the deplorable state of the crater-filled road in their area. The locals who have endured major hardships on rainy days, are demanding immediate repairs to the road, including proper rubble soling and compaction using a road roller.
Speaking to reporters, Fr. Johnsie Colaco highlighted the plight of ailing senior citizens residing in the area, pointing out that the current condition of the road makes it impossible for vehicles, let alone ambulances, to enter in case of emergencies. “For over a month, our vehicles have been stranded on the main road due to the horrible condition of the road,” he further added.
Former MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho stated that the Ratwado road was acquired and constructed by him through the Margao Municipal Council. “However, upon visiting the area now, it appears as though there is no proper road, only a kutcha access. We had warned the sewerage department when they commenced work during the latter half of May, that the works would not be completed, and that road repairs thereafter would not be possible once the rains set in,” he said. “Strangely, the Sewerage Department and political leaders were seen going around collecting NOC’s to lay the sewerage network here, despite it being a public road,” he added.
Residents expressed concerns about safety, recounting incidents of scooter riders falling off with their children due to the road’s poor condition.
