RDA Minister outlines plan to solve Bardez’s water supply issue

Says 3 tanks with filtration systems are being processed

Mapusa: The Ports and RDA Minister Micheal Lobo informed that three tanks with filtration systems are being processed, which will solve the water problem issue in Bardez.

“The first plant with tank and filtration at Porvorim is in progress. The pipeline of Tilari has already reached Calangute and Siolim. Once the tanks with filtration comes up in Assagao and Calangute, the water shortage problem will be solved”, said Lobo.

Stating that the water shortage problem is on rise in Bardez, he said,” We are still relying on the years old Assonora plant and the pipeline which was designed in late 80s when the requirement was less. Demand is increased but the supply is limited. Work of the 15 MLT plant at Porvorim is underway and will be processed further once the government releases funds to the contractor. The Tilari pipeline has already come up in Calangute and the process of 15 MLT tank with filtration is under progress, Lobo added.

“Similarly, a 5 MLT tank with a filtration system at Assagao will be enough. Once these tanks with a filtration system are ready, it will permanently solve the water shortage issue in the coastal belt. The WRD pipeline is already in Siolim for irrigation purposes, which we can also use for consumption purposes after filtration”, said the Calangute MLA.

The Minister had called for a review meeting with the Assagao Sarpanch and panchayat members and PWD officials.

Post the meeting, The PWD Executive Engineer added, “People are not getting enough water supply since the speed of the water from the Assonora Plant is reduced. This has happened because the pathways are blocked due to highway work. A major shutdown will be carried out on January 15 wherein these blocked pathways will be cleared. There are more issues such as pipeline leakages and more, which will be resolved soon.
