RDA to be converted into department: Salgaonkar

PANJIM: The State government will shortly give the rank of a full-fledged department to the Rural Development Agency (RDA) by naming it as Department of Rural Development.
Rural Development Agency (RDA) Minister Jayesh Salgaonkar on Thursday said the agency will soon be converted into a full-fledged department.
“RDA will be bifurcated from the panchayati raj and this new department will be directly linked to the Union Ministry of Rural Development. As of now the file has gone to the Secretary, RDA, for approval. Once done it will be tabled in the cabinet for authorisation,” Salgaonkar said speaking to Herald
He added, “RDA as a self-governing department would make it easier to independently implement related public centric schemes. As I was in Zilla Parishad earlier, there were many things which I had observed that RDA could do with its schemes and a lot of works in rural areas.”
Asked about the benefits of a separate department, Salgaonkar said, “RDA, being a part of the Panchayat Department, had limited scope for development works and schemes but now after being a separate department it will directly receive funds from MoRD.”
The Chief Minister had announced in his Budget speech that RDA will soon be a separate department in a bid to give more scope on rural development.
