PANJIM: Inefficiency needs a serious uplift in the four-storied Udyog Bhavan. And for four years, the experience of reaching out to the government being is a daily reality

Nearly 200 government employees and scores of ordinary people visiting the building have been suffering, due to the non-functional elevator.

The Udyog Bhavan houses four major departments viz Directorate of Industries, Trade, and Commerce, Department of Information and Publicity (DIP), Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), Information and Public Grievances has been non-functional for the past four years.

The building houses approximately 200 employees, informed an official working at the DIP.

One of the employees working on the third floor lamented that the elevator has been non-functional for the last four to five years and that the higher authorities are turning a blind eye to the problem.

Adding he said, “I am a heart patient and being advised by the doctor not to climb the stairs. Since the elevator of the building is non-operational there is no other alternative than to climb the steps and proceed.

Adding to this, yet another employee working at the Department of Information and Publicity demanded that the elevator be made operational as soon as possible as it causes difficulties for aged people to climb the stairs and reach their respective offices.

When contacted, Director of Industry, Trade, and Commerce Swetika Sachan informed Herald, “The tender for the elevator repairs has been already floated and the work will be started soon. The file has already been cleared by the government.”

Adding she said, “I don’t know since when the elevator isn’t in the working condition but for the last year since I have joined, the elevator is not functional.”
