PANJIM: Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha on Monday said he is ready to represent the Save Old Goa Action Committee and the Goa Church before the Supreme Court to seek the demolition of the illegal construction in the protected heritage area at Old Goa.
Reacting to the massive protest by the agitated people of Goa against the illegal construction within the World Heritage site by a BJP functionary, Adv Tankha said he also came to know that the Save Old Goa Action Committee and Goa Church had approached the Apex Court praying demolition of the structure.
“When I arrived in Goa, I found that Goa Church is incensed about the some construction activity in the protected area. I believe that the Church has taken the matter before the Supreme Court praying demolition of illegal construction within the ASI protected area at Old Goa. If that is correct then as a lawyer I would like to assist them in the Court. Apart from that as a Parliamentarian I will also raise this issue in Parliament as protecting archaeological wealth of Goa is absolutely necessary,” said Tankha.
The rules and regulations should be strengthened and complied with and as a political party we will also stand by rules and regulations and will never support any illegality, Tankha added.
