Real estate firm brazenly occupies public road at Patto

Two-storey cabins, heavy machinery including cranes, construction material dumped on public subsidiary road as well as main road; public access blocked; commuters inconvienced

PANJIM: Nearly hundred metre long subsidiary public road running parallel to the main road opposite Krishnadas Shama State Central Library at Patto-Panjim has been occupied by a real estate company which is executing a mega project in the vicinity.

When O Heraldo team visited the site, it found that two-storey cabins, heavy machinery including cranes, construction materials etc are dumped on the public subsidiary road thereby blocking the access to the public.

Trucks and cranes were also seen parked on the main road stretch.

The Central Library visitors were using the particular subsidiary road for parking their vehicles and also driving license tests were being conducted by the Transport Department on the same road.

Councillor Shubham Chodankar informed that this issue was raised by Councillors during the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) meeting in January and also in May where CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate on both occasions had assured to get the construction materials and machinery cleared from the road. However, till date nothing has changed on the ground.

“Commuters including people of my ward who take that road are facing great inconvenience as heavy vehicles are not only parked on the service road but also on the main road. The City Mayor has assured to take required action but nothing has been done. I still see that the road is still occupied by the real estate company,” Chodankar said.

When contacted, Rohit Monserrate said, “I have asked the CCP Commissioner to serve them a notice and get the road cleared at the earliest. We will get it done.”
