PANJIM: People in the rural areas are good at heart, as a result the efficiency of the people in the village is good and they can do good work, said Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai. Congratulating Pandurang Patil, a progressive farmer from Rivona, Sanguem on his dedicated attitude towards agriculture, the Governor said that other farmers should take inspiration from him.
He also said that the diverse traditions, history and features of our country can be seen in the village. The role of farmers in the development of the country is paramount, he said, adding that agriculture accounts for 17 to 18 per cent of our GDP.
“Agriculture is an area that makes our country self-sufficient and I am proud to live in a village in Kerala,” he said. From now on, Raj Bhavan will also remember Patil as an excellent example, he added.
He further said, economic and social freedom as well as rural self-government can be achieved only through agriculture.
He also clarified that we will try to do something new related to agriculture in the 88 acre land of Raj Bhavan.
Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phaladesai said Pillai is the first governor, who is interested in knowing the problems and difficulties of the farmers. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come up with a number of schemes for the farmers, which are benefiting the farmers of the country.
He said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is a government running on Antodaya principle and is always working to bring the government plan to the final stage.
He said that Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has also started several schemes for the farmers and the farmers should take advantage of it.
Meanwhile, the Governor interacted with the farmers and participated in a training programme on Kulagar system jointly organised by South Goa Agricultural Technology Management Agency and Sange Agriculture Divisional Office.
