MARGAO: A rebellion has brewed up in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) camp in Benaulim with the workers and members serving a 15-day deadline on the party to reopen the candidate selection process in the constituency or face action.
Claiming that the party’s earlier decision taken in haste, the members and the workers have decided to take future course of action if the party fails to reopen the candidate selection process within deadline.
The members said they were shocked and disturbed the way the candidate for the constituency was selected.
“Without our knowledge, you chose to discard the process and went ahead with foisting a candidate on us. You are now seeking to force us to accept your “farce” candidate. The process was carried out in an extreme hurry, when hardly 38-40% of the constituency had been covered in the door-to-door campaign,” Ciriaco Barretto alleged.
“You announced the name of the “selected” candidate within 24 hours after the filling of acceptance forms by the willing candidates. Obviously no proper screening was done,” AAP volunteers wrote a letter to the senior leaders.
“AAP general secretary Pankaj Gupta, who handles the candidate selection process, has chosen to ignore us. We also met AAP Observer, Dr Damodaran on the issue, but all to no avail,” Joseph Rodrigues charged.
“Is AAP a party with a difference really?” Joseph questioned.
