PANJIM: This year both Class 10 and 12 results created new records in pen and paper and it’s a relief for students of low capacity who has scored very high numbers. The question remains that whether it’s a short-lived glory, owing to the pandemic driven discovery of marking structure and would they able live up to the newly-set expectation beyond their merit.
The announcement of 99.40% pass percentage (average of Class 10 and 12) left 110 students from qualifying in their board exams. Were they not up to the mark or was it the lack of Internet, etc that hampered their performance over the others?
When Herald spoke with students of different merit and sought their views on the government’s decision on the result criteria, arrays of views of grievance and gratitude surfaced.
Neha, a Class XII student from Quepem, said she faced acute Internet issues throughout the year and the situation worsened with the change in weather.
Another student Rohit from Taliegao felt that the students should have been given another chance at their prelim exams when the criteria were announced. It would be a chance to score better.
Sanvi Naik, Class X student from Bardez said the decision taken by the government in favour of students was the best possible way to carry on with the preparation for entrance and competitive exams.
On the other hand, disheartened with the result, Antonie D’Souza from Margao said, “I will mostly reappear for the examination. My carefree attitude throughout the year was the reason for the overall low performance”.
Now, it is expected to render a domino effect in the education system. if the board exams were cancelled due to health reasons how trust-worthy would be an entrance exams? Almost 7000 students are planning to appear for CET. How can one expect the students to perform at an entrance examination when they didn’t even answer their board examinations,” Snighda Borkar from Salcete asked.
Aarya from Vasco said,
“40% weightage given to the internal assessment of Class 12 could have been recounted for the students who do not wish to reappear for the examination but want to improve their marks,” she said.
