Recoveries outnumber new COVID-19 cases

More cases reported in Curtorim, Raia and Ambelim in South; In North, Mapusa has first COVID case

PANJIM: After the two deaths on Monday due to COVID-19, Tuesday brought the good news that 53 patients of the novel coronavirus were cured, even as 45 fresh cases were reported in the State. 

In a bulletin, the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) said till date 205 patients have been cured of the virus.

With 45 new cases, the number of confirmed positive patients in the State stands at 909, while the active cases are 702. 

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said the State has reported two COVID deaths so far, which include an 85-year-old man from Morlem in Sattari and 58-year-old man from Kharewado, Vasco. 

“All other patients at the Margao COVID Hospital are stable. Even those in ICU are stable,” Sawant said. He added that a former minister, who tested positive and is undergoing treatment at COVID hospital, is also stable and recovering. 

As per DHS, out of 1,991 samples tested for the virus, 45 were declared positive, while 1,274 were negative. The reports of 627 samples are awaited. 

While on Tuesday, more cases were reported in Curtorim, Raia and Ambelim in South Goa, in North, Ganganagar in Mapusa reported its first COVID case. 

On Tuesday 229 domestic travellers and 11 international travellers were placed under home quarantine, while 179 travellers were in facility quarantine. Also, 22 persons are in hospital isolation. People quarantined at various residencies and hotels number 1,323.

Meanwhile, the North District Collector notified the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Calangute Residency and Sports Authority of India Training Centre SAI Girls Sports Hostel at Peddem in Mapusa as COVID care centres for asymptomatic patients.
