Rectification of accident-prone spot in Dharbandora on cards: Govt

Construction of VUP is also part of the upgradation proposal, say PWD officials

PANJIM: The State government has forwarded to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), a proposal of rectification of black spot/accident prone spot at Dabhal junction in Dharbandora and that after due approval the work will be taken up.

Reacting to a news item published by O Heraldo under heading “Locals demand road engineering solutions to accident prone Dharbandora junction”, the PWD officials said that construction of Vehicle Under Pass (VUP) is also proposed in the upcoming upgradation proposal.

The dangerous junction at Dharbandora had come under scrutiny of the locals following a tragic road accident wherein one person was killed and another injuredon Sunday.

According to the villagers, two persons from Davkon village in Dharbandora had lost their lives, while several other mishaps had occurred at this junction in the last 12 years. Despite frequent accidents, PWD and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) engineers had failed to come up with road engineering solutions to put an end to accidents, the villagers had rued.

The motorists proceeding towards Sanvordem using the junction were complaining about being obstructed and they were often caught off-guard by speeding oncoming vehicles which often lead to mishaps. The villagers had also apprehended that the quadrupling of Ponda to Mollem road to be undertaken soon, will inevitably make the Dharbandora junction the centre of controversy all over again.

The villagers demanded construction of an underpass at the junction to avoid the mishaps so that vehicles proceeding from Usgao to Sanvordem can safely use the underpass. They had also pointed out that rumblers were erected on the road hearing to Sanvordem to restrict the speed of vehicles but not on the Mollem to Ponda road and vice-versa.
