CUNCOLIM: As expected Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar was given a red-carpet welcome by both his supporters and BJP karyakartas of Quepem constituency.
Accepting his invitation, hundreds of former Congress members and BJP karyakartas visited the newly inducted deputy chief minister at his residence and lauded him for joining the BJP.
Quepem Municipal Council Chairperson Dayesh Naik, ZP Khushali Velip and other supporters of Kavlekar were present in large number.
Dayesh Naik told the media that people had forced Kavlekar to take the decision of joining BJP. “We are with Kavlekar; all Congress workers will work with our leader,” Dayesh Said.
On the occasion, Kavlekar explained to his supporters why he quit the Congress and joined the BJP.
“I do not have any selfish motive to join BJP. My only interest was to do development of constituency and my constituents,” he said.
“I had been in Congress for the last 22 years and during these years I have only seen groupism and leg pulling. As a leader of opposition, I tried to get all united, but the greedy does not want welfare of other leaders. Some leaders in Congress are of the attitude that if they do not get the chair other congressmen should also not benefit. This attitude forced all ten of us to say good bye to Congress. Leg pulling and selfish attitude had ruined the Congress party,” he said.
“We got warm welcome from all the BJP leaders. Even the top national leaders treated us with respect. BJP culture is respect for all which I had never experienced in Congress,” Kavlekar said.
Assuring his supporters that he would remain in BJP forever, Kavlekar said that Congress has no future both in the State and at the Centre.
