Reflect on past, renew pledge for future: Guv

PANJIM: Governor Mridula Sinha and Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar paid rich tributes to the martyrs and freedom fighters on Goa Revolution Day at the State-level function held at Azad Maidan on Thursday.

The Governor, Chief Minister and others placed wreaths at the martyr’s memorial while the Police presented a Guard of Honour. 
The Governor recalled the call given from Margao by the late Dr Ram Manohar Lohia to the people of Goa to join the freedom movement on this day in 1946. She said that today was an appropriate occasion for Goans to reflect on the past achievements and renew a pledge to safeguard the hard-earned freedom and to steadfastly work for greater peace, progress and prosperity. Parsekar said that Dr Ram Manohar Lohia’s clarion call in 1946 gave a major jolt to the colonial rule and great momentum to the liberation movement. He said the issues concerning freedom fighters would be taken care of by his government.
The Governor and Chief Minister released laminated colour freedom fighter’s registration Certificate.
Shyamsundar Nagvekar, President of Goa, Daman and Diu Freedom Fighters Association Panjim also expressed his views.
Ministers Pandurang Dhavalikar, Alina Saldanha, MLAs Sidharth Kuncolienkar, Mayor Shuban Chodankar, CS R K Srivastava, DGP T N Mohan, DIGs S Renganathan and K K Vyas, Collector Neela Mohanan, Arvind Bugde, Sanjiv Gadkar, Deepak Dessai, Naguesh Karmali, Chandrakant Kenkre, freedom fighters and citizens were present. 
Dr Dayanand Rao compered the function, while the choir of Bal Bhavan was in attendance.
