PANJIM: Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh, IPS, on Tuesday, urged people of the State to refrain from posting derogatory posts about individuals, groups, sects, creeds, and religions on social media platforms.
Taking to microblogging site X (formerly Twitter), Singh said, “Social media is a digital invention of the civilized world to spread information, knowledge, and interactions. Pls don’t make it ‘unsocial’ by posting derogatory posts about individuals, groups, sects, creeds, and religions. Learn to respect each other. No disharmony, please.”
The statement has come in the wake of arrests of some individuals recently who have been accused of making derogatory remarks against certain Gods and communities in the State. While three complaints were filed against one Abhishek Banerjee for posting derogatory remarks against St Francis Xavier, a 29-year-old youth was arrested by Mapusa Police for posting derogatory remarks against Devi Lairai on Monday, May 25, 2024.
In another post, the DGP alerted citizens against a cyber fraudster posing as a former director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
He advised citizens not to respond to any communication from the number +92 3130624785.
“All citizens are advised not to respond to this number if they receive any messages or requests. It is a Pakistan number, and the pic is of a former CBI Director,” the DGP said in another post.
