MARGAO: Admitting that Savitri Kavlekar was very close to her, Goa Mahila Congress President Pratima Coutinho refused to comment on her joining Bharatiya Janata Party and at the same time refuted any possibility of the Congress and BJP joining hands to take control of the Margao Municipal Council.
Speaking to media persons, Coutinho admitted that Savitri was like her left hand and that the Mahila Congress did groom her and help her emerge.
“However, she forgot that it was the Congress that made her a candidate in Sanguem,” she said. Stating that Savitri joined the BJP as her husband has joined that party, she  opined that there was no need to change the party to bring about development as that could have been done through the present MLA of Sanguem who is a member of the BJP.
Replying to a question, she said there was no change whatsoever of the Congress joining hands with the BJP to take control of Margao Municipal Council and appealed to media persons not to flash such news while disclosing that she has been told about it by media persons. She said that the councillors would be in a better position to explain why they objected to the resolution for installing the statue of Dr Jack Sequeira.
