MARGAO: Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourencox has demanded that the State government appeal against the Mhadei Tribunal order before Karnataka does so.
He also held the Goa legal team’s unpreparedness responsible for the Mhadei Tribunal order against Goa.
Briefing media persons, Reginaldo said the Goa team was totally unprepared with relevant data and that helped Karnataka get the water granted to them. “The Goa team did not have relevant data like how the diversion of water would affect agriculture in Goa, how it would affect the environment and even how it would deplete the Green Cover,” he said.
He demanded that the government immediately collect this relevant data and based on that file an appeal against the Mhadei Tribunal order before Karnataka files one.
He said the verdict including the water allowed for the hydroelectric project has resulted in 20 per cent of Karnataka’s demand of Mhadei water being granted to that State while lamenting that Goa failed to provide data on consumption of Mhadei water.
He said the Manohar Parrikar government’s lethargy on the matter would result in the Mandovi River going drying soon and while pointing out that Atmaram Nadkarni has proved to be a failure demanded that a new legal team be asked to handle the matter now.
