Reginaldo chides CM on coal block

MARGAO: Accusing the government for doling coal block to a private party instead of retaining it for self consumption, Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has challenged Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to come out clean on the issue.

Lourenco further said the Chief Minister should tell Goans how he will make good the huge losses he has inflicted on the people of Goa after coming to power. “Goa has lost the coal block because the ‘zero tolerance to corruption’ government has gone to bed with a private party SKS Energy for two and half years”, he told the media on Friday.
He said the central government had given the coal block for “free” to Goa Industrial Development Corporation, a government company, to enable people of Goa to benefit from the abundant power generated from this coal. “The coal reserve spread across 715 acres of land was valued at Rs 7,500 crore by the CAG, all of which is now lost just because the government doled the coal block to a private party instead of retaining it for self consumption”, he added.
The people of Goa will not only lose uninterrupted power, but also the crores of rupees spent on consultancy, apart from the Rs 7,500 crore worth coal asset. “The government is clandestinely inflicting power cuts on the people of Goa. More frequent the power trips, more are the sales for the generator suppliers,“ he said.
