Reginaldo dashes off letter to Parrikar

MARGAO: Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has dashed off a letter to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar with a plea to re-examine the permissions granted by the Town and Country Planning department in the light of discrepancies that have come to light vis-a-vis the controversial 85-room hotel project in Curtorim.

The MLA has also written a letter to the Curtoirm village panchayat to write to the Public Works Department requesting the concerned engineer to drop the road widening project in view of objections from the locals as the proposal would cause loss to small land owners.
He has also made it clear that he had not asked the government to acquire the land for the road widening. Reginaldo’s statement assumes significance in view of the disclosures made by the chief minister on the floor of the House that the Curtorim MLA had written two letters pertaining to the road.
“I want to make clear that I had not asked the government to acquire land for the road. I had only called for the road widening and had at no point rooted for land acquisition against the wishes of the villagers”, he said, adding that he has now asked the village panchayat not to take up the road widening with the people opposing the proposal.
Replying to a question on the chief minister’s statement that the government would withdraw the technical clearances issued to the controversial project, Reginaldo quipped “the Chief Minister and his government should do what is right”.
The Curtorim MLA, who had a week ago joined the candle light procession taken out in the village by the villagers against the controversial hotel project, said he would stand by the people of Curtoirm in their opposition to the project. “I am totally with the people of Curtorim in their opposition to the project. I hope the government examine the various discrepancies that have come to light in respect of the hotel project and withdraw the clearances”, Reginaldo added.
