MARGAO: Congress Legislature Party spokesman Reginaldo Lourenco has called for a truce between GPCC chief John Fernandes and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho, even as he called upon the party president to be magnanimous and not to make utterances which will antagonise the party men.
Reginaldo reiterated that he is willing to contest the Lok sabha poll from South Goa as a loyal party soldier if the party nominates him for the seat.
“The party president should be magnanimous and should not make statements that Mauvin has only one vote. He should not have antagonised Mauvin by making such a statement. Mauvin is critical of the party because he must have been hurt with certain people in the party.
The party chief should treat partymen in such a way that the flock remains together and face the battle ahead,” he said, while saying the Dabolim leader should refrain from airing his grievances against the party.
He said a senior party leader should intervene and break the ice between John and Mauvin in the interest of the party.
On his chances of getting the Lok Sabha ticket, Reginaldo said he has never been an aspirant nor had demanded the ticket for the South Goa seat. “Some well wishers had suggested to the party high command that I am a good candidate for South Goa. When the high command asked for my opinion, I told them that I will accept the ticket as a loyal party soldier,” he said.
On supporting Sardinha if the sitting MP gets the re-nomination, Reginaldo said “I have made my stand clear. I will work in the same manner what work he did for me in the last election.”
Meanwhile, the CLP spokesman slammed Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar for doing nothing to stop the retrenchment of workers of Sesa Sterlite. He warned that he is weighing the option of holding demonstration and taking to the streets with the workers if the interests of the 1000 workers are not protected by the government.
