Reginaldo lashes out at govt for ‘harassing’ people

MARGAO: Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco on Thursday lashed out at the government for “harassing” people at the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex in Margao. He also accused Goa Electronics Limited of being only money collecting agents.
“People who had gone to the collectorate at 10 in the morning were stuck there till 1 pm, as according to the authorities, the servers were down and people’s payment could not be accepted,” Reginaldo said questioned the need to make the payment at the complex.
He pointed out that after making the payment at the Matanhy Saldanha complex people have to go back to the department concerned with the receipt to get their work done which, he said, is ridiculous.
In fact, vide a letter dated October 1, Reginaldo asked Transport Minister Sudin Dhavalikar to set up a full-fledged RTO office at one place as, currently, the people are put to untold hardships by making them run from one place to another.
“If one wants a passing certificate for a vehicle, then, first, one has to go to Arlem to ascertain that tax and other formalities are complied with; secondly, go and obtain the fitness certificate at Osia complex RTO office; and finally go to the Matanhy Saldanha complex to make the payment,” he said.
“Making the public run to three different offices, for obtaining a passing certificate for a vehicle, is uncalled for harassment,” he said and demanded that it be stopped immediately.
Therefore, Reginaldo demanded that the Transport Department set up one central office for the district. He also asked the Goa Electronics Limited that is handling the money matters to get its acts together instead of making people suffer unnecessarily as happened on Thursday.
