Reginaldo lashes out at govt for hiking seats sans facility

MARGAO: Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has lashed out at the State government for increasing MBBS seats without proper infrastructure at hand.

The MLA claims that the permission for more seats has been taken without following proper guidelines of infrastructure laid down by the Medical Council of India. The MLA claims that there is a deficiency of faculty and basic infrastructure in Goa Medical College (GMC) which needs to be given first priority.
“Important spheres if medical like general medicine and surgery are short of faculty to the tune of 50 per cent. The classes and halls needed for tuition of medical students are falling short of space. Still the government is increasing number of seats, this is whole scale cheating,” said Reginaldo.
The MLA has appealed to the government to set things right pertaining to the infrastructure.
and the basic needs of the GMC and has also pledged to take up the matter in the Assembly and demand answers from the government.
The medical seats which were 75 in the past were increased to 100 by the Congress government in the same conditions and now the BJP government has increased it to 150. The central government being the same as in the State is the common factor in both the cases.
Meanwhile the South District Hospital which was supposed to have added medical seats too has slowed down to a major extent.
