PANJIM: Curtorim is a land that has produced most illustrious MP’s and has an opportunity to give Goa yet another one.
Congress choice of Reginaldo represents young, clean face without baggage and is like an Aam Aadmi Congressman whose candidature has forced BJP Government’s dirty trick department to activate its network to ensure multiple contestants to divide the secular vote to ensure the election of their candidate by default, said Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai at a meeting held in Curtorim.
He further said that foisting multiple candidates was a time tested BJP technique to divide secular votes and the need of the hour was for the people to see through this game and disseminate this to the public and maintain unity and ensure victory of the winnable secular candidate who in this Lok Sabha poll is Reginaldo.
Goans were known for their social and political consciousness and would not be misled by divisive and match fixing leaders who were putting their hats in the ring only to divide the secular vote. Sardesai said that institutions like the Council for Social Justice and Peace (CSJP) had already advised Goans on the need to keep out communal and fascist forces and it was imperative that this advice was heeded by the Goan public in order to conserve secular tolerant society that has reigned in Goa for so long.
Hence awareness of this aspect of deviation of secular votes to ensure victory of communal elements would make this Lok Sabha election a battle between the cadres versus blackmailing leaders and the former would triumph.
Reginaldo explained the secular ideology of the Congress party and the need to uphold this ideology for the nation’s progress. He reiterated that he had not lobbied for the ticket but was now keen to work hard to ensure victory of secularism over fascist forces and pleaded for everyone’s help in this. He promised the well attended gathering that he would remain worthy of their trust and never allow the name of Curtorim to be tarnished during his future stint at New Delhi.
